Global Alliance - Introduction

Dear Fellow New York Chapter OBs,

I would like to provide a summary on the current status of Global Alliance, from the output of the 2008 Global Reunion Conference in New York.

Please feel free to post questions and comments through the forum discussion at this site, which should be operative shortly.

The proposed GA Mission

  1. Promote fraternity among old boys.  It is hoped that with the publicity generated by a GA, old boys who have not been previously connected to any OBA can be recruited and join in the activities in different cities,
  2. Support our alma mater.  With the large number of old boys connected via the GA, we can solicit support for our school in terms of money, talent, and time.
  3. Promote the image of LSC via community activities in various localities.
* For clarity, the GA is not involved with any of the local OBA’s activity, GA is only a voluntary organization to support and coordinate global activities upon local chapter’s request.

New York 2008 - The world conference was designed to cover

The formation of GA Proposal” with 3 sub-topic sessions:

  • The Mission and Objective
  • The Organization structure
  • Challenges and Opportunities

The world conference was well participated by all chapters and HK.

Based on the output and tolling from the participants on their views towards GA,

The work team proposal is as follows:

  • Agree to the formation of GA
  • A virtue organization is the best option to go forward

  • The current LSCOB GA website established for the GA work team will be used as the official platform for GA communication
  • OBA provides voluntary fundraising support, upon request by LSC and/or LSF
  • GA will be the voluntary vehicle to coordinate global OB events; to start with, to support the organization of 2010 global reunion in San Francisco
  • GA will be a voluntary vehicle to support LSC student counsel for overseas studies – in providing school and local logistic support.
  • GA will also be a voluntary vehicle to provide other soft-ware need of LSC

At the subsequent work team meeting immediately after the global reunion in New York, the work team has agreed to provide a Formation Plan Proposal, based on the findings in the world conference, to the steering team for implementation.

The key steps towards the GA formation:

  • Steering Committee to approve the work team proposal
  • Steering committee to appoint a constitution sub-committee
  • Sub-committee to draft a constitution for GA
  • Upon approval of the draft constitution by the steering team, a GA Board of Directors will be appointed, represented by all chapters and Hong Kong.
  • GA Board of Directors to appoint an executive team to initiate a) student counsel support and b) 2010 San Francisco global reunion coordination

To Summarize:

  • The process thus far has taken 3 full years, just to reach where are now today
  • The next step, the formation of GA, will take more resources and hard work, which requires broader participation from OBs everywhere
  • On La Salle Spirit, let’s strive (to achieve this goal) and something more.
