Members of the local New York / East Coast Chapter of the La Salle College Old Boys Association had been very active lately in celebrating the anniversary of their mother schools in Hong Kong - the 75th Anniversary of La Salle College and the 50th Anniversary of the La Salle Primary School.

Peter Lai (Class of 67), current President of the New York Chapter, the Executive Board of Vice Presidents – Chris Tse (Class of 65) and Simon Was (Class of 83); Treasurer – David Chan (Class of 66) and Secretary – Anthony Chan (Class of 67) under the guidance of the two former presidents – John Ng (Class of 65) and Victor Lee (Class of 64) are leading the planning efforts for a series of activities and functions over the next 12 months.

The most immediate one will be the LSC Celebration Gala Dinner Dance to be held on October 5 (Friday) at Linden Place in Flushing, NY. The honor guest speaker will be Mr. Samual Mok (Class of 62), former Chief Financial Officer of US Department of Labor. The celebration is expected to be well participated and supported by businesses and organizations in the Chinese communities, especially those with Hong Kong connections. (see Newspaper article in Chinese[PDF] )

The grand finale celebration will take place from December 6 to December 9 in Hong Kong, where a grand Gala Dinner will be held at the Hong Kong Convention Centre on December 8 with over 2,000 participants are expected including hundreds of Old Boys from overseas. A Global Reunion dinner is also scheduled on the next evening on December 9 of which the majority of old boys’ families and friends will participate. In appreciating the homecoming old boys from overseas, the school is preparing a series of welcome activities such as school concerts, special tours and programs with students to highlight and complement the visit of the overseas old boys and their families. It is anticipated that the New York delegation will have 40 plus people participate in this celebration.

Another historic moment for the New York Chapter will be the hosting of the 2008 World Conference and the Global Reunion of La Salle College Old Boys Association during the July 4 weekend next year. This is the first time host for the New York Chapter and substantial amounts of efforts have already been taken by all members (as well as their families) in making this a world-class reunion affair. The 5-day-4-night event is packed with actions that include the traditional LaSalle College World Cup Football Tournament with teams representing several worldwide chapters, golf and tennis tournaments, a full-day La Salle World Conference with designated theme and topics, a New York City dinner cruise, a visit to Atlantic City casinos as well as other pre- and post- conference options of sightseeing tours and Broadway shows.

The New York Chapter is facing a very exciting year ahead and certainly likes to share these joyous moments with as many La Salle Old Boys as possible. The chapter welcomes and is open to all old boys in the surrounding regions as we have members from New England, Connecticut all the way to Washington DC.
